Israel Defense Forces raise alert in Gaza over soldier abduction fears

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have increased alert levels for troops deployed in the Gaza Strip following intelligence reports suggesting Hamas may attempt to capture an Israeli soldier. The heightened readiness specifically affects the Gaza Division and the 99th Division.

According to intelligence from the IDF and the Shin Bet, there are concerns regarding Palestinian groups approaching military positions near the so-called ‘Yellow Line.’ Military officials expressed fear that Hamas might attempt an abduction similar to the 2006 capture of Gilad Shalit to alter the current battlefield dynamics.

Israeli security assessments suggest such an operation could lead to a major escalation and a renewal of large-scale military operations in Gaza. Meanwhile, Hamas has previously denied claims regarding preparations for soldier abductions, stating its commitment to ceasefire agreements.
