Israel Defense Minister Katz threatens Hamas leader and accuses Turkey of supporting terrorism
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has issued direct threats against Hamas political bureau leader Khalil al-Hayya, stating that al-Hayya is a target and will follow previous leaders into death.
In accompanying social media posts, Katz also leveled accusations against Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, claiming that Turkey provides support for Hamas activities and terrorist operations from its territory. Katz alleged that Erdoğan is “laying out the red carpet” for Hamas members.
Turkish officials have responded sharply to these statements. Burhanettin Duran, head of the Turkish Presidency’s Directorate of Communications, dismissed the claims as baseless and characterized them as an attempt to distract from Israel’s military actions in Gaza. AK Party spokesperson Ömer Çelik further described the remarks as a sign of the Israeli government’s “political desperation and exhaustion” amid domestic pressures and upcoming elections.
