Israel Defense Minister vows to maintain military presence in southern Syria
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, accompanied by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, visited troops in southern Syria to signal that Israel will not withdraw from its positions in the region. Speaking from Mount Hermon, Katz addressed Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, noting that the Israeli military is positioned in a security zone just 35 kilometers from Damascus.
Katz stated that the presence aims to protect the Golan and Galilee regions and monitor threats from Lebanon and within Syria. He emphasized that the Israeli military conducts nightly operations to dismantle infrastructure belonging to jihadist groups. Katz also issued a warning regarding Iran, stating that Israel has struck the country twice and is prepared to strike a third time if necessary to counter threats.
Prime Minister Netanyahu reinforced these sentiments, asserting that the Iranian regime is on the verge of collapse and that Israel will not allow terrorist forces to establish themselves on its borders. Damascus has responded to these developments by condemning the Israeli military presence as a flagrant violation of Syrian national sovereignty.
