Israel Defense Minister signals Gaza war resumption and migration plan

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has signaled that a resumption of full-scale war in the Gaza Strip is imminent. Katz stated that the Israeli military is prepared to eliminate Hamas and subsequently implement a migration plan to relocate approximately two million Palestinians from the territory. He noted that 70 percent of Gaza's population has already been evacuated due to ongoing military operations.

Katz indicated that Israel is prepared to facilitate this displacement via land and sea, though he noted the country is awaiting discussions with the United States regarding potential destinations for the displaced population. While Katz characterized the migration plan as voluntary, U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee has denied any plans to displace Palestinians against their will.

In response to these developments, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has reiterated Egypt's firm opposition to any plan involving the displacement of Palestinians, citing concerns for regional stability and international law.

Humanitarian conditions in Gaza remain severe. The Palestinian Ministry of Health reports that the death toll has exceeded 73,700 since the conflict began in October 2023. Despite a ceasefire agreement established in October 2025, military strikes continue, resulting in over 1,300 deaths and 4,700 injuries since that agreement took effect.
