Israel destroys Hezbollah tunnel network in southern Lebanon

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the destruction of an extensive Hezbollah tunnel network located on the Ali al Taher ridge in southern Lebanon. The underground infrastructure consisted of eight routes totaling more than 5,400 meters in length, which had reportedly been constructed over the last two decades.

Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz, stated that the operation completes their operational control of the ridge, a strategic 600-meter-high position overlooking areas near the Litani River. Inside the tunnels, troops reportedly discovered weapons, including anti-tank missiles, rockets, machine guns, explosive drones, and hundreds of mines.

The detonations were powerful enough to be detected by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), which recorded a seismic tremor of magnitude 4.1. This military action occurs amid stalled efforts to implement a June agreement intended to facilitate the withdrawal of Israeli forces in exchange for the disarmament of Hezbollah and increased deployment of the Lebanese Army.
