Israel destroys Hezbollah tunnels and reports weapon caches near Baabda

Israel has announced the destruction of a Hezbollah tunnel network spanning over 2 kilometers near the Ali al-Tahir heights in southern Lebanon. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israeli forces seized significant quantities of weapons at the site before its destruction, describing it as the largest Iranian military facility destroyed outside of Iran.

Concurrently, reports indicate that Israel has shared sensitive intelligence with the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) regarding alleged Hezbollah strategic weapon caches located in fortified underground facilities near the Presidential Palace in Baabda. These facilities are claimed to house precision missiles, long-range projectiles, advanced communication systems, and attack drones.

The United States has reportedly requested that Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and the Lebanese Army leadership take measures to confiscate weapons in the Beirut and Baabda areas, potentially linking continued military and economic aid to such actions. Meanwhile, military analysts suggest Israel may be pursuing a 'war of the peaks' strategy to secure strategic high ground in southern Lebanon, including areas around Mount Hermon and the Mansouri region.
