Israel establishes new settlement in Jenin province

Israeli authorities have established a new settlement, named ‘Noa’, in the Jenin province of the occupied West Bank. Located southeast of Jenin, the new settlement sits south of the existing Ganim and Kadim settlements.

A ceremony marking the creation of the settlement was attended by Israeli ministers and members of the Knesset. This move is viewed as a reflection of increasing official support for expanding settlements in Palestinian territories, particularly in the northern West Bank.

The development occurs as settlement activity escalates in areas from which Israeli settlers were previously evacuated in 2005 under the ‘disengagement plan’. Since the formation of Benjamin Netanyahu’s government in late 2022, settlement expansion has accelerated across the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. Reports indicate the Israeli Security Cabinet had previously approved a $370 million budget for the creation of new settlements.
