Israel extends EU civilian mission mandates in Rafah and West Bank

Israel has agreed to extend the mandates of two European Union civilian missions in the Palestinian territories until June 2027. This decision follows months of diplomatic negotiations.

The first mission, EUBAM Rafah, assists in managing the border crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt. It provides supervision and advisory support to Palestinian border officials to ensure the crossing operates safely and effectively.

The second mission, EUPOL COPPS, operates in the West Bank. It focuses on training Palestinian police officers and supporting the criminal justice system to strengthen Palestinian institutional capacities. This mission is part of efforts to build a new Palestinian security force as part of broader peace initiatives.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas welcomed the extension, stating that the missions respond to concrete needs on the ground and contribute to regional stability.
