Israel Extends West Bank Camp Closures and Tightens Prison Measures Amid Ongoing Human Rights Concerns

Israeli military authorities have prolonged the closure of the Jenin, Tulkarm and Nur Shams refugee camps in the occupied West Bank until the end of September. New orders require permits for any entry, exit or stay in the camps, tightening movement restrictions for residents. The decision coincides with continued demolition of homes and displacement of thousands of families, and recent clashes in the area, including raids in Qabatiya and confrontations in Nablus that resulted in the use of tear‑gas and live fire. Palestinian officials report that more than 1,182 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank since October 2023 and roughly 24,000 have been arrested.

Separately, the Palestinian Prisoners Club warns that Israeli detention facilities have increasingly become a system of systematic extermination. The club’s recent report describes an expanded use of administrative detention, torture, forced starvation, medical neglect and other abusive practices. It claims over 100 prisoners have died under this regime, with identities confirmed for 90 victims, and accuses Israel of concealing the fate of many Gaza detainees. The organization portrays these developments as an institutionalized phase of the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people.
