Israel faces heightened security risks amid Iranian activity and terror threats

As Israel marks the third anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attacks, the national security council has advised Israelis abroad to exercise extreme caution, avoid demonstrations, and refrain from speaking Hebrew in public to mitigate risks from Iran and its proxy groups.

Security concerns are heightened by satellite imagery showing significant new activity at the Minzadehei nuclear site and the Pickaxe mountain storage facility in Iran. Additionally, the Israeli security service, Shin Bet, is participating in interrogations of an Omani pilot, Hamam al-Hammami, who allegedly attacked a flight captain with an axe in an attempt to crash a plane carrying 166 passengers, mostly Israelis.

In response to terror threats potentially linked to Iran, the United States has withdrawn advanced bombers from a base in Faiford, England. Meanwhile, diplomatic tensions between the United Kingdom and Israel are escalating; British officials have indicated they may expel 27 Israeli diplomats if Israel closes the British consulate in East Jerusalem.
