Israel faces risk of civil war or state collapse, CIA report warns

A classified CIA assessment, prepared by the agency’s Red Cell unit in August, warns that Israel faces a significant risk of civil war or state collapse. The report, titled ‘Fractures From Within,’ highlights how years of conflict in Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran have deepened political, economic, and social divisions within the country.

Key pressures identified include a severe economic crisis, rising military expenditures, and growing public anger over the exemption of ultra-Orthodox men from mandatory military service. Additionally, the report notes the return of heavily armed veterans from prolonged combat who are suffering from significant psychological trauma.

Political instability is also a major factor, as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s efforts to retain power are contributing to a constitutional crisis. The assessment, reported by Drop Site News, suggests that these converging pressures, alongside increasing international isolation and settler violence in the West Bank, could trigger a major internal conflict. The report specifically focuses on the Jewish citizenry and does not include Palestinian citizens of Israel.
