Israel-Hamas conflict intensifies amid threats and casualties

Israeli military strikes across the Gaza Strip have resulted in the deaths of seven people, including a woman and a teenager. One of the strikes in the Jabalia area reportedly killed a Hamas member identified by the Israeli military as a participant in the October 7, 2023, attacks. Other fatalities occurred in Khan Yunis, Gaza City, and central Gaza.

Amidst the ongoing violence, Hamas leaders have reportedly issued threats of new attacks against Israel, the West Bank, and abroad. According to reports, these threats were conveyed to Israeli authorities through a UN coordinator following a meeting in Gaza. Hamas cited Israeli military operations and territorial control as motivations for their stance.

The Israeli military maintains that Hamas is rearming in violation of existing ceasefire agreements, while Hamas denies these claims and blames Israel for the breakdown of peace efforts. Negotiations regarding a gradual Israeli withdrawal and Hamas disarmament remain stalled. According to the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health, at least 1,522 Palestinians have died since the declaration of the ceasefire.
