Israel intensifies military raids and airstrikes in Syria

Israeli military forces have intensified ground and air operations within Syria, specifically targeting areas in the Quneitra and Idlib provinces. In a recent raid in the town of Jabata al-Khashab, over 100 personnel and 15 military vehicles conducted searches in residential areas, resulting in the detention of two individuals.

These ground maneuvers follow an air campaign that struck the Abu al-Zuhur military base in Idlib, targeting its runway and storage facilities. IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir visited forces operating in southern Syria, stating that the military will not permit hostile forces or significant threats to establish themselves along the border.

Reports indicate a pattern of frequent incursions, with the Syrian Observatory documenting dozens of Israeli attacks inside Syria throughout 2026. Analysts suggest that these recurring ground operations, which often occur well beyond the 1974 disengagement line, serve to establish a permanent military presence and could contribute to broader regional escalation.
