Israel Katz declares kite launches from Gaza as terrorist acts

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has announced that an ultimatum regarding the launch of kites and balloons from the Gaza Strip into Israeli communities has expired. Katz stated that any such launch will now be treated as an ‘act of terrorism’ and will be met with a strong response against those responsible, the organizers, and the executioners.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have been authorized to use all necessary means to address these launches, which may include the evacuation of populations from Gazan neighborhoods identified as launch sites to neutralize these areas. This policy follows a ban implemented by the Netanyahu government to prevent intimidation tactics similar to those used prior to October 7.

In recent weeks, approximately 12 kites and four balloons have crossed the border into Israeli communities near the Negev. While Hamas has denied direct responsibility and accused Israel of using the activity as a pretext to continue the war, Israeli defense officials suggest the group may be encouraging these provocations. Local humanitarian committees in Gaza have appealed to parents to stop the practice to protect the lives of children.
