Israel warns of expanded security zone in Lebanon if Hezbollah joins Iran

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has issued a severe warning to Hezbollah, stating that if the group participates in a coordinated attack with Iran, Israel will expand its permanent security zone in southern Lebanon. This expansion would include the Nabatieh and Litani River regions. Katz also threatened a ground offensive that could reach the southern suburbs of Beirut, potentially displacing over one million Lebanese people and evacuating populations as far north as the Awali and Zahrani rivers.

In a separate diplomatic development, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a telephone conversation with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun. Rubio urged the Lebanese government not to return approximately 780 kilograms of confiscated explosives—including TNT and C-4—to Hezbollah, following a recent seizure by Lebanese security forces. Rubio also called for direct military-to-military communication between Lebanese and Israeli forces to aid in deconfliction.

President Aoun requested that the United States pressure Israel to cease its ongoing attacks on southern Lebanese towns and villages, emphasizing that Lebanese security forces are working to prevent unauthorized weapons smuggling and armed displays.
