Israel legislative elections held amid ongoing regional conflict
Israel held legislative elections on October 27, marking the first vote since the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks. The elections took place against the backdrop of military operations in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, and Iran.
The ruling electoral bloc secured the most seats despite losing some support, while the opposition bloc led by Gadi Eisenkot failed to unseat the current leadership. Neither major coalition currently holds a parliamentary majority. Arab Israeli parties, representing approximately 21 percent of the population, collectively secured nearly 16 percent of the seats, though both Netanyahu and Eisenkot have stated they will not collaborate with these lists to form a government.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faced the elections while managing ongoing corruption prosecutions. The political outcome is not expected to end the regional wars or change the current military posture toward Palestinian, Lebanese, and Iranian targets.
