Israel mandates clear labeling of AI‑generated election ads
A new Israeli law that came into force on Sunday requires any political material created or significantly altered with artificial intelligence to be clearly labeled. The rule applies to images, videos and audio; printed ads must carry a notice covering at least five percent of the space, video overlays must be permanent, and radio spots must include a spoken disclaimer at the start and end. Violations can be treated as breaches of election law, according to the Central Election Committee, which introduced the regulation to protect confidence in the upcoming vote.
Researchers warn that AI‑generated deepfakes and personalized chatbot attacks could further erode voter trust and turnout. Recent viral AI videos, such as one depicting rival Gadi Eisenkot hugging Arab MP Mansour Abbas, illustrate the speed with which convincing falsifications can spread, prompting concerns about misinformation, disenchantment and the overall integrity of the democratic process.
