Israel monitors rebuilding of Syrian Air Force and Turkish military presence

Israel has expressed concern regarding the reconstitution of the Syrian Air Force following the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime. Israeli surveillance has detected signs of renewed aerial activity, including the recruitment of new pilots and training exercises involving helicopters and trainer aircraft. Recent sightings of Sukhoi SU-22 fighter jets in the Idlib province have heightened scrutiny.

While analysts suggest that the aging, Soviet-era aircraft may not pose a direct military threat due to a lack of spare parts and modern capabilities, Israeli officials are reportedly sharing their concerns with the United States. A primary focus of Israeli apprehension is the growing Turkish military presence within Syria. There are concerns that Turkey may deploy advanced air-defense systems and radars, which could challenge Israeli air superiority and restrict its freedom of movement in Syrian airspace.

The new Syrian armed forces, led by President Ahmed al-Sharaa, are reportedly receiving support from various international actors, including Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Russia, and France.
