Israel opposes US-backed Gaza disarmament roadmap

The United States-backed Board of Peace has announced a 15-point roadmap for the complete disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza. According to President Donald Trump, the agreement aims to transfer governance of the Gaza Strip to a new Palestinian technocratic body to ensure lasting peace and security.

Hamas has informed the Trump administration that it agrees to the terms of the roadmap, which include laying down weapons and transferring rule to the Palestinian body. Hamas officials stated they are ready to move to the second phase of the agreement, provided it receives Israeli approval and Israel begins implementing its portion of the deal. They have called on the U.S. administration to pressure Israel to comply.

However, the Israeli government has expressed opposition to the plan in its current form. Energy and Infrastructure Minister Eli Cohen stated that Israel does not believe Hamas will honor the agreement, suggesting the group may use a truce to regroup. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has maintained that Israel will not withdraw from its current positions in the Gaza Strip until Hamas is completely disarmed, emphasizing that security interests remain the priority.
