Israel permits US team to enter Gaza to identify Hamas weapon surrender sites
Israel has approved the entry of an American company, commissioned by the ‘Peace Council’, into the Gaza Strip to identify locations for Hamas to surrender its weapons. According to reports from Israel's public broadcaster, the team will conduct field operations in the southern areas of Rafah and Khan Younis, which are currently under Israeli control.
The mission involves surveying sites where Palestinian militants can safely deliver rifles and other weaponry for destruction. Under the peace plan established by Donald Trump, the Israeli military will provide security supervision to ensure militants can reach these designated locations without posing a threat to Israeli forces.
While the plan stipulates that Israel will only begin a gradual withdrawal from demilitarized areas once Hamas disarms, the specific mechanism for the handover remains unclear. There are ongoing concerns regarding how militants will move through the territory during the process. Despite Hamas's apparent intention to relinquish arms, Israeli intelligence suggests the group may be rebuilding its capabilities in anticipation of potential shifts in the political landscape.
