Israel prepares new military phase in southern Lebanon
Israel is preparing a new phase of military operations in southern Lebanon to establish a security zone and continue actions against Hezbollah. These steps are being taken despite a June agreement regarding a gradual withdrawal, as security tensions remain high in northern Israel.
Israeli forces have moved 20 kilometers into Lebanese territory, deploying two reinforced divisions. Their primary objectives include securing the zone and destroying Hezbollah tunnels intended for kidnapping Israeli civilians. Israel has stated it will maintain a military presence until the Lebanese government fully disarms and dismantles Hezbollah, in accordance with previous agreements.
Since October 7, Hezbollah has launched more than 15,000 projectiles into Israel, leading to the evacuation of border towns like Nuah Dzat. Reports indicate that of Hezbollah’s estimated 40,000 members prior to the conflict, over 8,000 have been killed in direct Israeli operations, leaving the group fragmented into smaller guerrilla units.
