Israel recommends banning UK aid workers and activists from entry
Israel’s Ministry for Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism has issued a letter recommending that border authorities bar employees and activists from several major aid organizations and campaign groups from entering Israel.
The recommended list includes representatives from Oxfam, Islamic Relief Worldwide, Save the Children, Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP), and the Norwegian Refugee Council. Additionally, the document targets campaign groups such as the Palestine Solidarity Campaign and Friends of Al-Aqsa.
This move follows the United Kingdom's decision to ban imports from illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank. In response to these trade sanctions, Israel has already barred 11 British Members of Parliament and a lawyer from entering the country and ordered the closure of the British consulate in Jerusalem.
Ismail Patel, founder of Friends of Al-Aqsa, stated that the attempt to ban the group demonstrates that the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement is having an impact, adding that such restrictions will not intimidate their activists.
