Israel refuses to release audio from fatal Zomi Frankcom drone strike
The Israeli military has refused to release audio from the 2024 drone strike that killed Australian aid worker Zomi Frankcom. This decision rejects demands from Frankcom’s family and the Australian government, who are seeking accountability for the strike on a World Central Kitchen convoy.
Israeli Ambassador Hillel Newman stated that the audio would not be shared due to potential intelligence issues and claimed the quality was too low to impact the case. Newman urged Australians to accept the legitimacy of Israel’s internal investigation and “move on.”
In response, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong accused the envoy of insulting the deceased worker’s family. The Australian government is currently reviewing its response following the Israeli military advocate-general’s decision not to charge the officers involved. Some legal experts and members of parliament have called for a joint international investigation similar to the MH-17 inquiry.
