Israel rejects Gaza disarmament roadmap despite Hamas agreement

The conflict in the Gaza Strip remains deadlocked due to political and military tensions between Israel and Hamas. Reports indicate that prior to the October 7 attacks, intelligence services and foreign governments were aware of Hamas's intentions to launch a major operation, yet the Israeli military and government failed to prevent the breach of the Gaza barrier.

More recently, tensions have escalated regarding a proposed disarmament roadmap. While Hamas and seven other Palestinian factions reportedly agreed to a plan involving disarmament in exchange for an Israeli military withdrawal, the government of Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected the proposal. Despite guarantees from the Peace Council that would allow Israel to maintain control over 70% of the territory and continue military operations until total disarmament is achieved, the Israeli government has dismissed the roadmap as dangerous. This rejection has coincided with an intensification of Israeli bombardment campaigns in the enclave.
