Sixty Palestinians detained by Israel were transferred back to Gaza by the International Committee of the Red Cross, arriving at Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis on 27 July 2026. The men were described as frail, injured and, in several cases, unable to walk.

The release, the largest since the first phase of the cease‑fire that began in October 2023, involves detainees who were among nearly 1,300 Gaza residents held as “unlawful combatants”. Israeli authorities said the men were freed after interrogations concluded they were no longer security suspects.

Former detainees recounted harsh treatment in Israeli custody, including being forced to sit on bare concrete or iron slabs, beaten with rifle butts and shot. Some were left in wheelchairs. Abdullah Kilani, seized in December 2024 on Salah al‑Din Street, said he spent more than 18 months in detention and was shot. Another detainee, known as Abu Ibrahim, and Mohammed Jabr al‑Majdalawi, who was held for a year and nine months, gave similar accounts of abuse.
