Israel seizes strategic Ali al-Taher ridge in southern Lebanon

Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon have intensified, centered on the strategic Ali al-Taher ridge. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced they have established operational control over the ridge and its underlying tunnel networks, which they claim were used by Hezbollah for command centers and weapons storage. This escalation follows Hezbollah drone attacks against Israeli forces in the security zone.

Lebanese health authorities reported that the cumulative death toll from Israeli attacks since October 8, 2023, has reached 8,925, with 30,595 wounded. Recent strikes in towns such as Nabatieh, Kfar Remman, and Arsal al-Sallim have caused further casualties and property destruction. The UN reports approximately 360,000 people remain displaced in Lebanon due to the ongoing conflict.

In response to the shifting battlefield, the Israeli military is reportedly considering a new security arrangement known as the 'Grey Line.' This plan involves reducing the current depth of deployment and establishing a new security zone closer to the border, approximately 3 to 4 kilometers from the frontier. While the IDF has secured the Ali al-Taher ridge, Hezbollah has rejected previous US-mediated framework agreements, demanding an end to Israeli occupation as a prerequisite for disarmament.
