Vienna investigation probes disappearance of Israeli mother and daughter

An investigation is underway in Vienna to locate Mali Yahalomi, 50, and her daughter Liel, 23, who disappeared during a trip to Austria. The two women were last seen in Vienna on Friday, August 7, and failed to board their return flight to Israel on August 11.

Authorities have shifted their focus toward the possibility that the disappearance was voluntary. Investigators found that digital history and location data had been intentionally deleted from the women’s mobile devices in the days leading up to their disappearance. Additionally, evidence suggests they may have obtained a significant amount of cash in Israel before traveling.

While initial fears included potential kidnapping or terrorist activity, both Austrian and Israeli officials have stated there is currently no evidence of criminal activity, foul play, or involvement by hostile groups. Vienna police noted that the women’s personal belongings were missing from their apartment, suggesting they packed and left voluntarily. The search continues with the involvement of the Mossad, Israel Police, and the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
