Israel strikes Abu al-Duhur military airport in Syria

Israel has claimed responsibility for airstrikes against the Abu al-Duhur military airport in Syria's Idlib province. The attacks, which targeted the runway and infrastructure, were reportedly motivated by concerns regarding potential Turkish military deployment in the area.

Following the strikes, high-level diplomatic talks between Syria and Israel took place in Jordan, mediated by the United States. During these discussions, Syrian officials demanded the withdrawal of Israeli troops to positions held prior to December 8, 2024. Damascus also called for the reactivation of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement to re-establish a demilitarized zone in the Golan Heights.

Turkey has rejected Israeli claims regarding its military intentions, labeling the justifications for the strikes as “frivolous” and an attempt to legitimize illegal attacks on Syrian sovereignty. The United States has expressed deep concern over the operations, characterizing them as an “unnecessary escalation.”
