Israel begins construction of execution facility for convicted terrorists

Israel is constructing a specialized execution facility within a prison wing in the center of the country to carry out death sentences for convicted terrorists. National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir announced that construction of the facility, which includes a dedicated death row section, has begun in recent weeks.

The facility is intended to implement the death penalty law approved by the Knesset earlier this year. Ben Gvir stated that the site will feature viewing rooms, similar to practices in the United States, where the families of victims can witness the executions. He described the move as the fulfillment of a campaign promise to implement the death penalty and worsen conditions for terrorists in prisons.

Human rights organizations and legal specialists have criticized the move, warning it could create a two-tier justice system. The legislation specifically applies to Palestinians convicted of terrorism-related killings. According to the organization HaMoked, over 9,300 Palestinians are currently held in Israeli prisons.
