Israeli airlines suspend Morocco and Dubai flights following security incident

Israeli airlines Arkia and Israir have suspended flights to Marrakesh, Morocco, following new directives from Israeli security authorities. This decision follows a recent security incident involving a flydubai flight. Arkia is currently evaluating the future of the route and considering alternatives, such as using commercial partners or leased aircraft, should the suspension become permanent.

Additionally, flights between Tel Aviv and Dubai remain suspended three weeks after an attack on a flydubai flight. Disagreements persist between Israeli and Emirati authorities regarding aviation security measures. Israeli officials are reportedly seeking to station their own security personnel in Dubai and install X-ray screening stations to inspect luggage.

While Etihad Airways has increased its Abu Dhabi-Tel Aviv schedule, the lack of Dubai service has caused airfares to rise and forced passengers to be rerouted through other cities. The Israeli Transportation Ministry previously acknowledged a lapse in vetting international flight crews, having relied on airlines to conduct background security checks.
