Gaza City airstrike kills two Christian women and three others

An Israeli airstrike on a residential building in the Remal neighborhood of Gaza City killed five Palestinians, including two Christian women: Maysa Khader Ibrahim Abu Daoud and her daughter, Mary Hafez Michel al-Najjar. The victims, members of the Greek Orthodox community, had recently moved from the Holy Family Catholic Church shelter to a rented apartment.

The Israeli military stated the strike targeted Ali Ahmed Al-Amoudi, a senior Hamas political bureau official. Other casualties in the strike reportedly included Dr. Yasmin Khamis Al-Boubou, a university official, and her mother.

Religious leaders have expressed profound grief. Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, offered condolences to the Christian community in Gaza. Additionally, Pope Leo XIV sent a personal message of condolence to Father Gabriel Romanelli, the pastor of the Holy Family Parish, expressing sorrow for the victims and the community.
