Berlin: Israeli Ambassador warns of danger to Jewish community after Die Linke victory

Following the victory of Die Linke in the Berlin House of Representatives election, Israeli Ambassador Ron Prosor has issued a sharp warning, stating that the Jewish community in the capital faces an ‘immediate existential danger.’ Prosor characterized the party’s rise as a new political dimension for ‘uninhibited antisemitism’ and called for a concrete plan to combat systematic hatred within its ranks.

Other leaders have echoed these concerns. Josef Schuster, President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, accused the party of repeated antisemitic transgressions during the campaign. Additionally, Eva Umlauf, President of the International Auschwitz Committee, stated that parts of the Berlin branch of Die Linke are ‘openly antisemitic’ and urged the party to distance itself from such ideologies.

Criticism has also focused on the party’s political communication. Reports indicate that a Die Linke stage in Neukölln featured a rapper whose content was interpreted as supporting armed struggle against Israel. Furthermore, the presence of individuals associated with organized crime and extremist groups at post-election celebrations has drawn condemnation from German criminal investigators and political figures.
