Israeli Brigade Givati Ends Mission in Southern Lebanon After Eight Months
The Israel Defense Forces announced that the Givati Brigade completed its eight‑month combat mission in southern Lebanon and concluded operations during a ceremony at Camp Filon in northern Israel, attended by Major General Rafi Milo. The brigade had earlier carried out border‑defence duties and ground assaults in Khiam, Bint Jbeil and north of the Litani River, claiming to have destroyed hundreds of Hezbollah sites, killed hundreds of fighters and seized more than 1,000 weapons. No official reason was given for the withdrawal.
The pull‑out follows a United States‑mediated framework agreement signed by Beirut and Tel Aviv, which outlines a phased Israeli withdrawal from selected areas of southern Lebanon but does not set a timetable for a full exit. Israeli forces continue to occupy parts of the region and conduct strikes, while Lebanese authorities report thousands of civilian deaths since the conflict escalated in October 2023.
