Syria condemns Israeli drone strike near Damascus

An Israeli drone strike on a vehicle in the village of Beit Jinn, located in the western Damascus countryside, has resulted in civilian injuries. Syrian state media and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the strike hit a small delivery truck, wounding at least one person who is reported to be in stable condition with a right-hand injury.

The Syrian government condemned the attack as a flagrant violation of its sovereignty and international law, noting it is part of a pattern of repeated Israeli incursions. The Israeli military confirmed the strike, stating it targeted a terrorist who was in the final stages of preparing attacks that posed an immediate threat to Israeli soldiers.

This incident follows heightened tensions in the region, including a recent Israeli strike on an airbase in northwestern Syria. The strike on the airbase was reportedly linked to allegations that Syria permitted Turkish troops to deploy near Aleppo, a move Israel claims breaches the security status quo. Diplomatic friction has also emerged following comments by U.S. special envoy Tom Barrack, which Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz dismissed as inaccurate.
