Israeli Tourist Drowns in Limassol, Cyprus, Prompting ZAKA Assistance

A 34‑year‑old Israeli man from Jerusalem drowned on a Tuesday afternoon while swimming with his family on a beach in Limassol, Cyprus. After he vanished from his relatives' sight, a rescue helicopter spotted him floating in the sea and emergency services pulled him out, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Israeli volunteer organization ZAKA confirmed it is working with Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cypriot authorities to support the victim’s family and arrange repatriation of the body for burial in Israel. ZAKA’s Deputy Operations Director, Chaim Vaingarten, described the incident as a “great tragedy” and said the organization maintains continuous contact with the family to expedite the process.
