Israeli expats advocate for voting rights in upcoming elections
Israeli expatriates are advocating for their right to participate in the upcoming national elections on October 27 after discovering barriers to voter registration.
One dual citizen, Ilana Mittman, discovered she was excluded from the voter registry despite maintaining strong ties to Israel. Upon reviewing her records via the Ministry of Interior online portal, she found her residency status had been altered under administrative ‘Code 51’ following a visit to the Israeli Consulate in San Francisco in 1986. During that appointment, which was intended to register her son as an Israeli citizen, consular staff reportedly took her state-issued ID card without explanation, leaving her with only a passport for foreign travel.
