Israeli families demand end to Lebanon war as Netanyahu eyes meeting on Syrian role

Families of Israeli elite unit soldiers wrote to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defence Minister Yoav Gallant and Chief‑of‑Staff Herzi Halevi urging an immediate end to combat operations in Lebanon, saying troops are trapped in a costly, undefined conflict.

At the same time, Netanyahu is set to hold a special cabinet meeting to assess growing Israeli concerns about a potential Syrian influence in Lebanon, following U.S. President Donald Trump's remarks about handing Hezbollah matters to Damascus. Israeli officials warned that increased Syrian involvement could destabilise the border area and likened it to “throwing a match into a powder keg.”
