Israeli forces conduct strikes and destroy military sites in southwestern Syria
Israeli forces have conducted multiple military operations in southwestern Syria, including the destruction of former regime military sites near Jandal Castle on Mount Hermon. According to Syrian state media, Israeli forces also shelled areas in the Quneitra countryside, specifically southeast of Al-Rafid and near the Bir Ajam woodland.
In a separate incident, an Israeli drone strike hit a delivery truck on the road between Beit Jinn farmland and the town, wounding a civilian driver. While the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the strike as a flagrant violation of national sovereignty and international law, the Israeli military stated the target was a terrorist preparing imminent attacks that posed an immediate threat to its forces.
These actions occur amid a broader pattern of Israeli military activity in Syria following the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad in December 2024. Israel has conducted hundreds of strikes and sent troops into the United Nations-patrolled buffer zone in the Golan Heights. Syria has repeatedly called for the withdrawal of Israeli forces, citing violations of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
