Israeli leaders face criticism from Lahav Shani and Ronald Lauder
Israeli conductor Lahav Shani and World Jewish Congress President Ronald Lauder have issued sharp criticisms regarding the current political direction and leadership of Israel.
In a guest contribution originally published in Haaretz, Shani, who serves as chief conductor of the Munich Philharmonic and music director of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, warned of increasing racism, settler violence in the West Bank, and a dehumanizing public discourse. He called for a return to shared human values and urged political leaders to take responsibility for intelligence and political failures.
Separately, Ronald Lauder criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, alleging that the leader prioritizes personal power over democratic rules and the future of the country. Lauder, a long-time acquaintance of Netanyahu, characterized recent political developments as resembling a ‘banana republic’ and noted that Netanyahu has placed his career above the pursuit of peace.
