Israeli Media Marginalizes Arab Parties and Women in Election Coverage

A review of Israeli television news in July found that Arab parties Hadash‑Ta'al and Ra'am, which poll between ten and fifteen seats, received no coverage at all. Only a single interview with a Ra'am deputy aired on Channel 12’s “Meet the Press”. On Channel 14, 100 % of interviews featured members of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition and none from the opposition, while Channel 12 showed a reverse bias. Women were also under‑represented, accounting for just 16 % of all political interviews.

Journalist and author Emily Amrusi used the same period to issue a public appeal, urging right‑ and centre‑wing figures to set aside personal egos and form a unified centrist list for the upcoming elections. She criticized the ongoing political polarization and called for leaders without criminal records, emphasizing the need for reforms in education, health and security.

The findings highlight a broader pattern of media favoritism toward the governing coalition and a systematic exclusion of Arab parties and female politicians during a critical election campaign.
