Israeli media targets Lebanese Army over Hezbollah disarmament claims
Israeli media outlets, including Channel 14, have intensified allegations against the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), claiming the military has failed to effectively disarm Hezbollah. Some Israeli political sources have alleged coordination between the LAF leadership and Hezbollah elements, describing recent disarmament attempts as a failure. These claims suggest that the Lebanese state may be unable to manage Hezbollah independently, potentially necessitating Israeli military intervention.
In contrast to these allegations, reports from the ground indicate the LAF has established six fixed checkpoints and 13 observation points, conducting 24-hour patrols and opening approximately 12 kilometers of roads. The military has also reported seizing roughly 1,818 items of weaponry and ammunition, including missiles, drones, and mines.
Diplomatically, negotiations between Lebanon and Israel, originally expected in September, have reportedly been postponed to October. US officials indicate that representatives from both nations are scheduled to meet in Rome next month to discuss a US-mediated security agreement aimed at reducing border hostilities. Additionally, Lebanese and Israeli ambassadors are expected to meet in Washington next week.
