Israeli military coordinates with Gaza militias for field operations
An investigative report by Haaretz reveals close operational and security coordination between the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the Shin Bet, and various armed militias within the Gaza Strip. These militias, which operate outside of Palestinian legal frameworks, are reportedly being utilized as a “field execution tool” by Israeli security forces.
According to testimonies from Israeli officers and soldiers, these groups are used to carry out military activities in high-risk areas that are difficult for the IDF to access. The report alleges that these militias have engaged in activities targeting civilians, including forcing residents to evacuate homes, looting, and arson. Some footage and reports suggest these groups have also been involved in the arrest and mistreatment of individuals.
Israeli security officials described the use of these formations as a “temporary operational necessity,” noting that these groups lack the capacity to maintain control or governance without continuous Israeli military protection and support. Local Palestinian tribes and reform committees have criticized these groups, stating they have detached from the social fabric and are being used to suppress national unity.
