Israeli military expert warns against Netanyahu's Iran rhetoric
Retired Israeli Major General Yitzhak Brik has criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s assertions regarding a decisive victory against Iran, labeling them a “dangerous delusion” that ignores strategic realities. Brik argued that achieving a military victory against a regional power like Iran would require extensive ground maneuvers and the occupation of Iranian territory—scenarios he claims are neither within Israel's operational capabilities nor supported by the United States.
Reports from Maariv suggest that Netanyahu may be considering delaying potential military action against Iran until after upcoming elections. The strategy allegedly aims to use the pressure of conflict to force opposition leader Benny Gantz into forming a national unity government.
This potential escalation has faced opposition from the U.S. administration, which seeks to avoid regional instability, and from Israeli military leadership. Analysts from the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) have condemned the instrumental use of the Iran issue for political leverage, describing the consideration of such scenarios as a sign of political instability.
