Israeli military intensifies raids in southern Syria
Israeli military forces have intensified operations in southern Syria, conducting raids and establishing military presence in the Dera and Quneitra provinces. Recent actions include a raid on the village of Abidin in rural Dera using approximately 10 military vehicles, during which several young men were detained.
In Quneitra, military units have conducted searches in villages such as Rafid and Cebata el-Hashab, and established a temporary checkpoint in Sayda el-Golan, which disrupted local traffic. Reports indicate that since the fall of the Bashar al-Assad administration in December 2024, Israeli forces have constructed approximately 10 military bases or points in these southern regions.
According to Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, between December 8, 2024, and July 18, 2025, Israeli forces carried out over 1,000 airstrikes and roughly 400 ground raids across various parts of Syria. Israel has justified its expanded presence by claiming the 1974 Disengagement Agreement is no longer valid.
