Israeli military lacks public outcomes for 254 investigations
An investigation by BBC Verify has found that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have not published the results of 254 investigations into incidents involving deaths or injuries. The military had previously identified 300 cases under investigation, but only 28 had published outcomes on the IDF website, while the status of another 18 remained unclear.
The incidents occurred between October 7, 2023, and August 19, 2026, across Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, and Israel. Of the 254 unresolved cases, 158 took place in Gaza, 48 in the West Bank, and 32 in Lebanon. In more than 200 of these incidents, at least one person was reported killed.
One notable case included a strike on a Gaza school in August 2024 that reportedly killed at least 93 people. The IDF stated it takes all allegations of conduct inconsistent with the law with utmost seriousness, though it provided information on only two ongoing incidents when contacted regarding the findings.
