Israeli Member of Knesset Zvi Sukkot, representing the Religious Zionism party, used a sledgehammer to destroy Palestinian memorials in the West Bank villages of Madama and Burin. The incident occurred while Sukkot was accompanied by settlers and under the protection of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and police.

Sukkot stated he took direct action because his previous requests to the military to remove the monuments, which he described as glorifying terrorists, had gone unfulfilled. The destroyed memorials honored individuals involved in past attacks against Israelis, including a 2003 suicide bombing and a 1988 killing.

The IDF condemned the act, stating that while the visit was authorized as a tour, Sukkot and his associates acted “deceptively and manipulatively” without permission to damage the property. The military noted that soldiers were diverted from operational duties to provide the escort. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also denounced the incident, stating that taking justice into one's own hands by public figures is “unacceptable.”
