Israeli pilgrim detained and facing Ukrainian military mobilization

Yonatan Karlinsky Mashak, a 49-year-old Israeli resident of Beitar Illit, was reportedly detained by Ukrainian authorities while attempting to leave the country following a Rosh Hashanah pilgrimage to Uman.

While traveling via a bus at the Orlivka-Isaccea border crossing between Ukraine and Romania, officials reportedly identified Mashak as a Ukrainian citizen. Although he holds an Israeli passport, his place of birth is listed as the Soviet Union, and authorities determined he was subject to military mobilization due to his Ukrainian citizenship.

Family members and community activists report that Mashak has been transferred to the Odessa area for military service. Relatives have been unable to establish direct contact with him since his detention, and members of the Breslov community are currently seeking assistance from religious leaders and activists in Ukraine to determine his whereabouts.
