Israeli PM Netanyahu warns special forces will act if ICC moves to arrest him
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israeli special forces are prepared to intervene if any foreign government tries to detain him under the International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant. The comment came after New York City Mayor Zohar Mamadani announced plans to discuss Netanyahu’s possible arrest if the Israeli leader attends the United Nations General Assembly in September, then later retracted the statement. While on a U.S. visit, Netanyahu told Fox News he will travel to any country that supports the ICC order and cited his five‑year service in the special forces. He also criticized the mayor, accusing him of inciting hatred. The ICC issued arrest warrants in November 2024 for Netanyahu and former defence minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Former U.S. President Donald Trump posted that Netanyahu would not be arrested in the United States.
