Israeli Security Chief Boaz Bismuth Flags Election Threats and Appointment Dispute
Boaz Bismuth, chair of the Knesset Foreign and Defense Committee, warned that Iran may try to turn Israel's upcoming elections into a new front line, including possible cyber attacks, disinformation, and even physical attacks on senior officials such as the prime minister. He stressed that the election system could become a strategic target for hostile actors.
Bismuth also criticised a series of controversial appointments to the Central Election Committee, citing the selection of lawyer Yafaat Siminovski as legal adviser and the appointment of lawyer Din Libneh as acting CEO. Lawmakers from the right demanded the resignations and pursued legal challenges, including a petition to the Supreme Court that was ultimately dismissed. The disputed appointments have raised questions about political bias and the integrity of the election process.
