Israeli Security Minister Gallant Orders Reserve Call as West Bank Operations Expand

Israeli security minister Yoav Gallant warned that the Israeli army will broaden its operations in the occupied West Bank, saying the government’s policy has cut terrorist attacks by more than 80% and promising to target “terrorist camps” in Jenin, Nur Shams and Tulkarm. He criticised Yair Golan for blaming settlers for the deteriorating security situation.

At the same time, the Israeli military is preparing to mobilise up to 240,000 reservists if needed through September 2026, citing a surge in settler‑related violence that has risen 63 % in the first half of 2026. The reserve call is intended to reinforce troops in the West Bank while preserving readiness on the northern front, amid concerns that Iran could draw Hezbollah into a broader conflict. Israeli army officials said political leadership has effectively “fed” the settler attacks, which often involve house‑burnings and assaults on Palestinian villagers.

The measures reflect mounting pressure on Israeli security forces in the West Bank and a political narrative that links expanded military action to curbing Palestinian attacks, while also acknowledging the role of settler aggression in escalating tensions.
